Breaking news: Rangnick impressed with United in 3-1 win: "That was our best performance" As he gives credit to a young star who is the man after his heart .
Reaction from Manchester United's Ralf
Rangnick after his side beat Burnley 3-1
in the Premier league on Thursday - their
biggest win under their recently hired manager.
"Well, I would say offensively, yes, defensively,
whenever we had the ball in their half, we
made a lot of those things that we had intended
to do. Finding the right spots, the right places
, the right spaces, taking on players in one
on one situations. After the first goal we
scored, we had control on the game in the
first half, but then we gave away one goal.
So, whenever the ball was in our half,
there is still some space for improvement.
But offensively I agree that was so far the
best performance."
Cristiano Ronaldo, Scott McTominay and
Edinson Cavani were singled out for praise
by Rangnick whose United side were under
pressure to perform after a disappointing
1-1 draw with Newcastle United on Monday
. His stars duly obliged with three goals
inside 31 first-half minutes.
"I mean, we only decided this afternoon
at two o'clock that he will play because
he still had some problems with his ankle,
the confusing injury that he suffered at
Newcastle, so it was good to have him
available and in the team. At halftime our
team doctor told me that he will
be struggling in the second half with regard
to the pain level of pain. So it was very
important to have him in the team and in
the end he could play for the whole 92/
93 minutes. Very important player for
us today."
McTominay scored the opener from
the edge of the box, Jadon Sancho's strike
went in off Ben Mee for United's second,
and Ronaldo added a third, in what
Ragnick said was their best performance
since his arrival at the club.
"Yes, but it's still important to have those
two players on board and the work ethic
that they showed, both of them showed
today, together with the Mason (Greenwood
) and Jadon (Sacho) was highly important
. They had to do a lot of negative runs. I
mean, just for the team to make sure that
we keep them as away as often as possible
from our own
box. This had to start with the four up
front. We had probably the most offensive
possible formation today. And therefore it's
important if you play with such an offensive
formation and line up, they work together
defensively and that they have a defensive
work ethic. That was the case with both
of them, Cristiano (Ronaldo), and Edi (
Edinson Cavani ). They did a lot for the
team against the ball today."
United are now up to sixth in the table
after their third win in four Premier League
games under Rangnick.
