Breaking news: Ralf Ragnick urge Manchester United board to sign is most important winger who he wants to bring in and sell ronaldo , you won’t believe he loves this player .
It's been a rollercoaster week for Manchester
United supporters, who've had to endure
various sets of emotions running through
their system.
On a positive note, Ralf Rangnick's team
progressed to the fourth-round stage
of the FA Cup after beating Aston Villa
to a 1-0 victory at Old Trafford. While
there were undoubtedly many things to
be pleased about, some apparent issues
still needed addressing.
United were able to keep another crucial
clean sheet, but to say they controlled the
match would be a wrong judgement. Villa
had an expected goal ratio of 1.6, and
there was a period in the game Rangnick's
team had just 37 per cent possession. This
improved as United saw out the win in
the final 20 minutes of the game.
Another area where United have been
struggling is in the wide areas, both offensively
and defensively, and one person who
came under attack on Monday night was
Marcus Rashford.
All United fans love Rashford and are
so proud of everything he's achieved, but
it's obvious there's a problem in his performance
levels. He's been playing poorly for so long
, and it looks like he isn't enjoying his football
at the moment.
Against Villa, he was sluggish on the ball
, never really got into the game and looked
utterly disillusioned on the left-hand
flank. He's lacking in confidence, and this
was portrayed through a moment where
he failed to follow up on a Mason Greenwood
shot that bobbled towards him, which
Emiliano Martinez was unable to keep
hold of.
Rashford isn't alone - United's other
wingers have been poor as well! While
Jadon Sancho will need time to adjust to
English football, he so far hasn't shown signs
of recuperating his £73million price tag, and
Mason Greenwood is best used as a striker.
So, with many of United's wingers out-of-form,
something else needs to be tried and tested
, and there's another option Rangnick
can use. He was also impressed when he
came on against Villa.
That person is Anthony Elanga.
19-year-old Elenga has been a bright
spark in United's academy ranks, and I thought
this would be the year where he made a
name for himself in the senior team.
He's an exceptional talent. In pre-season
, he was sensational, scoring two goals in
the four matches United had played. In
the final game of last season, he even scored
a 2-1 victory over Wolves.
When he was brought on in the 86th
minute to replace Rashford against Villa,
he looked so bright on the ball and willing
to take players on. There was a moment
where he won a corner on the left-hand
side of the Stretford End, to which he tried
to get the crowd going by ordering them
to raise the noise levels. It was a wonderful
thing to see.
Although he hasn't played that often this
season, the stats show he could be precisely
what Rangnick wants from his wingers.
As per FBRef.com, he's averaged five
successful pressures per 90, which is
more than Greenwood, Sancho and
Rashford (3.13, 4.27 and 4.48). He has
also averaged a rate of five successful
passes per 90 into the final 1/3, showing
he likes to move the ball forward into the
attacking areas - precisely what Rangnick
needs to implement his philosophy!
When you consider the form of United's
other wingers, I think it's about time
Rangnick hands an opportunity to the Swedish
under-21 international because he could
bring something different to United's
attack. They're currently missing direct
players who aren't afraid to take people
on, and Elanga might offer that.
It's undoubtedly something for United's
manager to think about, and if I were
him, I'd give Elanga a chance!
