Breaking news: As Ralf Ragnick finally responds to Jesse lingard exposing Manchester board and him over Greenwood’s case , here is what he said he was doing with Greenwood’s girlfriend.

Ralf Rangnick urged his Manchester

United stars to stop airing any grievances

with him on social media as he tried to

smooth over his dispute with Jesse Lingard

 on Monday.

Lingard and Anthony Martial have

publicly contradicted comments made

about them by Rangnick in the last few weeks.

Lingard posted on Twitter that his 'headspace

is clear' after Rangnick said the player had

asked for a few days off to 'clear his mind',

and Martial used Instagram to contest a

claim by the interim manager that he 'refused

' to play against Aston Villa before joining

 Sevilla on loan.

Asked ahead of Tuesday night's trip to

Burnley if it would be better for players

to keep issues in-house, Rangnick said:

'It's always better. I never ever read

or communicate by those social media

accounts.

'I don't exist there and wouldn't have

time to do that, so therefore it's always

better and I always communicate with the

players directly. I did that with Anthony

and Jesse, but maybe I'm from a different

kind of generation. I know in both cases

what I said to the players and what happened

so, for me, there's no reason to discuss

 this any more.'

Even so, Rangnick faced more questions

over Lingard after he was criticised

for allowing the England international

and Edinson Cavani to miss Friday's shock

 FA Cup defeat by Middlesbrough

when United were already without

Mason Greenwood.

Greenwood is on bail after being arrested

on suspicion of raping, attacking and

threatening to kill a 18-year-old student,

and was dropped by sponsors Nike

on Monday.

Rangnick and Lingard differed over

whether it was the club or the player

who suggested taking some time off after

a loan move fell through because United

couldn't lose another player in the wake

 of Greenwood's suspension.

It's understood both parties are keen

to put the dispute behind them, but

Rangnick revealed that Lingard had

mentioned 'personal issues' in their discussions.

He added: 'With regard to Jesse, I have

a very good relationship with him. He

knows I would have been willing to

let him go at least until the issue with Mason

came up and all the other things we

have spoken about.

'He mentioned some personal issues

but again we have to look forward now.

There are no problems with myself and

Jesse and vice-versa.'

Rangnick confirmed that Lingard and

Cavani will return to the squad at Turf

Moor and defended his decision to give

the Uruguay striker some extra time off

following a World Cup qualifier against

Venezuela.

'He played 90 minutes for Uruguay and

even with the original travelling schedule

, he couldn't have been available for the

Middlesbrough game. Maybe he could

have been on the bench and come on in

extra time. Edinson asked me two days

after the West Ham game if he could

stay for one or two days longer

in Uruguay.

'We didn't then know anything about

Mason Greenwood, this only came

 up a week later.'

Rangnick, who hit out at the 'idiots'

guilty of racially abusing Anthony

Elanga on social media after he missed

in the penalty shootout against

Middlesbrough, admitted United are

still a long way off being title contenders.

'You just need to have a look at the table

,' he said.'Right now we are fourth

in the league and everybody inside the

club including myself would be happy

if we finish fourth at the end of the season.'
