Breaking news: Ralf Ragnick explains why varane was withdrawn from his Manchester United squad ahead of Brighton clash .

Raphael Varane was suffering from stomach

troubles in the build-up to Manchester United's

game against Brighton yesterday night, according

 to interim manager Ralf Rangnick.

The World Cup winner was named in

Germany's starting lineup against Graham

Potter's side, but due to illness, he was substituted

by Victor Lindelof on the squad sheet.

Rangnick told BBC Sport about Varane's

withdrawal: "On the way from the hotel after

dinner and the team meeting, he had stomach

 troubles."

We were trying to get rid of it with medication

, but he wasn't feeling well, so Victor

Lindelof  was brought in instead."

The former Real Madrid man was due

to start for the Reds for the tenth week in

a row, but he was unable to do so.
